Rift widens over mining of uranium in Virginia
Sun Jan 20, 2013
It's the same story every time. "Sure it's safe. Think about the jobs!" Maybe if we lived in a country that wasn't pocked coast to coast with environmental and humanitarian disasters caused by mining that argument might make sense. But seeing that we don't live in that fantasy land these people are …
Cops' fatal shooting of unarmed Calif. man was 'lawful,' DA rules
Tue Dec 18, 2012
"That black guy had a gun we swear. Why would we lie we're the police." A century later and it's not just a Family Guy joke, it's still reality. Pathetic.
Inside the 'Romney Readiness Project,' the ambitious plans for an unrealized administration
Mon Nov 19, 2012
This isn't news. Of course it looked like Bain: an office bureaucracy fetishizing the efficient destruction of lower-class lives. This after the fact lionizing of "Romney the Competent Manager" is as hilariously myopic as it is revolting. Good riddance.
NTSB: Warning signals activated before vets' float pulled onto train tracks
Sun Nov 18, 2012
Why exactly are the warnings only starting 20 seconds before the train comes through? Obviously the driver is at fault, and the organizers of the parade for not consulting with the railroad and its planned train schedule before making the extremely questionable decision to route a parade over a rail …
Hostess, maker of Twinkies and Ding Dongs, says closing business
Fri Nov 16, 2012
It is hilarious that so many of you look at a company that mismanaged itself into bankruptcy and immediately decide the unions are entirely at fault. The pervasive and cancerous impulse to blame everything on the little guy and ignore the transgressions of those in authority is one of the saddest de …
Teacher forced to resign over false 'improper touching' accusations gets $680,000
Tue Oct 9, 2012
It's good that he's getting compensation for being punished over a case that turned out to have no merit after even the most basic of investigations. That said he should have been told long ago that a touchy-feely approach to teaching is completely unsuited to that age, or any age past early/mid ele …
Kaboom! Oddly named man's walking stick prompts evacuation in Akron
Wed Oct 3, 2012
Sounds like someone got lost on the way to the Pawnee town meeting.
Homeland Security 'fusion' centers spy on citizens, produce 'shoddy' work, report says
Tue Oct 2, 2012
Oh but dear me how will we ever keep up a state of phony Eternal War without dozens of offices all over the country spying on innocent US citizens? God knows there's nothing more terrifying than the monthly reveal of another FBI-financed-planned-and-instigated terrorist plot. I don't think I could s …
Catch and release - Researchers tag great white sharks off Cape Cod
Tue Sep 18, 2012
Animals that large are literally suffocating and beginning to crush organs under their own weight as soon as they're out of the water. I don't see any way that this isn't bad practice for a very questionable increase in data gained. Both tagging and blood/tissue samples can be done, and more easily, …
Economists see no 2nd recession, no real recovery
Tue Aug 23, 2011
The recession never ended. The recovery has yet to begin. Formulations utilizing the GDP are meaningless. If you are among the 70-90% of this country's citizens who don't make most of their money through returns on investments then your wealth, real and relative, has never stopped declining.
